A Comprehensive Educational Approach
The Care Center has an on-site day care facility with the capacity for up to 25 infants and toddlers, which creates many mother-infant learning opportunities. Dedicated staff with decades of combined child care experience provide a loving, engaging environment for children. Brain stimulation starts early with age-appropriate learning tools, reading, counting and expanded vocabulary.
By having child care on-site, the staff has an opportunity to model good parenting skills. They encourage mothers to read and use broader vocabulary with their children, and they explain different stages of child development as well as how to deal with challenging behaviors. Child care staff educate Care Center students about cognitive development, show them how to care for newborns, and demonstrate ways to encourage good communication as a means to healthy discipline.
All students attending The Care Center take parenting classes. We embrace the theory that the opportunity to rise above poverty starts in the womb. Every teen mother in our program learns about nutrition, child development, early literacy activities, safety, and discipline.
