What It Means to Invest in The Care Center
The people who fund The Care Center are investors in a powerful positive experience for girls in Western Massachusetts. They are unwilling to accept statewide statistics such as the highest percentage of children living in poverty, the second highest percentage of children living in single-parent families, the second highest teen birth rate, and the highest incidence of reported child abuse and neglect.
They are investing in:
- Human potential — by exposing young women to the richness of human knowledge and possibility. The Care Center provides a GED education in Spanish and English. The arts, humanities, and sports are critical parts of our curriculum as well. The Care Center is committed to each girl reaching her potential.
- A supportive environment — by providing students with childcare, health services, counseling, goal setting, coaching, transportation, breakfast, lunch and snacks. Our students are able to concentrate on their studies and design a positive future for themselves.
- The empowerment of women and girls — because women around the world play a central role in raising health and nutrition standards, keeping children in school, decreasing birth rates, and helping create jobs.
- Our community — Holyoke and the surrounding communities are rich in potential. There are numerous individuals who only lack the opportunity to succeed. 95% of the students at the Care Center say they had a bad experience in high school and college was never mentioned as a viable option for them. To build our community we need more individuals who have opportunities and the support to reach their highest potential. An investment in The Care Center is an investment in the members of this community and a commitment to their participation in it.
Our investors are activists fueling an historic movement with their money, not unlike those who invested in the civil rights movement. This movement is about each and every one of us having the opportunity to reach our potential. It’s time each and every one of us reach our potential in Holyoke.
